SLAYING THE MAHATHIR DRAGON: Good move for Najib to team up with Anwar - Zaid

SLAYING THE MAHATHIR DRAGON: Good move for Najib to team up with Anwar - Zaid
The speculation that the war in Umno has escalated with former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad adamant on adding another scalp to his collection continues to gain traction.
Weighing in on the issue, former de facto law minister Zaid Ibrahim noted that Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak appears to be putting up a strong fight.
"All said and done PM is not that weak after all. He is taking the master head on. Exciting times," tweeted the ex-Umno lawmaker.
Zaid also said that opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim should team up with Najib and PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang.
"Then battle lines are clear and rakyat can have a real choice," he added.
Since Anwar’s appearance in the Umno-linked media attacking Mahathir’s close associate, former finance minister Daim Zainuddin, there has been talk of a new alliance having been formed.
'Come on, be a man Zam'
On the same note, Zaid also called on another former minister Zainuddin Maidin not to turn his back on Mahathir at this juncture.
He pointed out how the former Utusan Malaysia editor-in-chief, who is popularly known as Zam, had rose up the ranks because of the former premier.
“Zam , Mahathir took good care of you. You would not be editor, minister and a Tan Sri but for Mahathir. The least you can do is stand by him,” he added.
He was responding to Zainuddin's blog today, where the former minister, who has been critical of the Najib administration, said he would no longer comment on political affairs.
Zainuddin said he made the decision based on not wanting to face threats and pressure in his old age, leading Umno insiders to claim that he could have been arm-twisted into raising the white flag.
However, Zaid called on the former minister not to bow to pressure but stressed that a clean slate was paramount during such battles.
“Come on Zam be a man, don’t submit if you believe in the cause. Country going down. Of course to be bold you have to be clean,” he added.
On his analysis of Umno, Zaid remarked: “The reason why Umno is beyond repair is the fear of the dissenter to expose wrongdoings of the incumbency because his baggage is rotten too.” - M'kini
