KUALA LUMPUR - Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar trumpeted last night of lawyer Eric Paulsen’s arrest over a tweet accusing Islamic authorities of extremism.
In a series of messages on Twitter, he also issued a caution to Malaysians not to threaten the “fabric” of the country’s diverse society.
“Eric Paulsen is arrogant and thought he succeeded in inciting Malaysians to destroy the spirit of our 1 Malaysia community.
“@PDRMsia is warning anyone, men and women, conspiring with him to be saner and not try to threaten Malaysia’s peace and harmony,” Khalid wrote yesterday.
Lawyers for Liberty’s Paulsen was arrested last night over his Twitter post accusing the Malaysian Islamic Development Department (Jakim) of spreading extremism through Friday sermons.
On Friday, Paulsen posted, “Jakim is promoting extremism every Friday. Govt needs to address that if serious about extremism in Malaysia.”
In a response on Saturday, Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said Paulsen together with DAP's Kapar MP Ko Chung Sen will come for attention under the Sedition Act.
In his Twitter post, Khalid posted a picture of Paulsen with the text of the now-deleted tweet, which was branded with the word “Biadap” (rude) in bold, red letters.
On Sunday, Paulsen retorted, questioning why Khalid initiated action against him and Ko based on demands from pro-Umno Internet users. - Malay Mail
