A former BN minister has proposed that PAS spiritual leader and former Kelantan menteri besar Nik Abdul Aziz be granted the highest honorific title of "Tun" by the federal government.
Kadir Sheikh Fadzir, who served as information as well as tourism minister, said political differences should not be an obstacle as Nik Aziz had contributed much to the country.
"I am confident that the whole country, regardless of their political views, will respect and welcome the award to him (Nik Aziz)," he added in a statement today.
Kadir's proposal comes amid Nik Aziz's deteriorating health.
Praising Nik Aziz, Kadir said aside from his long service to Kelantan, he was also a role model to the people.
"He has shown how even a powerful person can live moderately," said Kadir, adding that Nik Aziz was mindful that the state's resources belonged to the people.
The 84-year-old PAS leader has been suffering from prostate cancer for a long time and is currently warded in the hospital.
The 'Tun' title is the highest federal award and only 35 people can have the award at any one time. - M'kini
