ANOTHER KU-NAN FIASCO? Keramat market 'full of rats', traders must shift to mall - minister
FEDERAL TERRITORIES Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor is adamant about moving traders from the Keramat market to the Keramat Mall in Kuala Lumpur this year.
He said he was firm about providing comfort to the traders and the public, as well as maintaining cleanliness once the traders moved into the mall.
“The current Keramat market is a rat-breeding place, and it is one of the reasons why the traders should move to Keramat Mall,” said Tengku Adnan after opening the Federal Territories-level People’s Feast and Putrajaya Family Day at the 1Malaysia Futsal Complex on Saturday.
He said this following protests held by the traders last week as they said their business would be affected if they moved to the mall.
Tengku Adnan also rapped at the ‘masterminds’ who influenced other traders against moving into the mall.
“I know the culprits. They have an agenda in persuading the traders.
“These ‘masterminds’ have eight or nine lots each, but under the ministry’s rationalisation exercise, they will only get one lot when they move to the mall,” he said.
Tengku Adnan added that the ministry had provided a mini Urban Transformation Centre at the mall to make it viable for traders.
“After many complaints from the traders that the mall was too modern, Kuala Lumpur City Hall agreed to develop Keramat Mall as a commercial centre as they had demanded. But they are still stubborn and refuse to move out,” he said.
The Keramat market will be demolished to make way for a project under the FT Affordable Housing Policy.
More than 3,000 Putrajaya residents came together during the annual Federal Territories People’s Feast.
“The gotong-royong event is a sign of gratitude by the people of Putrajaya for the development they have enjoyed,” said Tengku Adnan.
The programme is also a medium to boost unity and friendship among the communities in the Federal Territory with numerous activities such as games for children and cooking the gotong-royong way for the feast.
At the same event, Tengku Adnan also flagged off a convoy of the Federal Territory of Putrajaya with Volvo Club Owners, involving 50 Volvo cars from Putrajaya to Taman Tasik Titiwangsa. - ANN
