Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is appealing to prison authorities to allow him to pay his final respects to former Kelantan menteri besar Datuk Nik Aziz Nik Mat who died yesterday, PKR lawyer Latheefa Koya said.
The lawyer said that until now, however, the authorities at the Sungai Buloh prison – where the opposition leader is being held after he was convicted and jailed five years for sodomy – have not given an answer to the request.
"We are still waiting to hear from them," Latheefa told The Malaysian Insider this morning.
Anwar had been allowed to attend his mother's burial and his daughter Nurul Izzah's wedding the previous time he was in jail.
Nik Aziz died at 9.45pm last night, an hour after he was sent home in Kota Baru after doctors took him off respiratory support at Hospital Universiti Sains Malaysia in Kubang Kerian.
