Anwar NOT likely to seek royal pardon - Khalid Samad

SHAH ALAM - Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim may not seek a royal pardon, as it would be tantamount to the leader admitting his guilt in his Sodomy II case, a PAS lawmaker claimed today.
Shah Alam PAS MP Khalid Samad said that a pardon usually means that the convict has admitted to having committed the offence.
“If a pardon is tantamount to an admission of guilt, I’m sure Anwar will not consider it,” said Khalid at a press conference here.
On Tuesday, the Federal Court upheld the Court of Appeal’s conviction of Anwar for sodomising his former political aide Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan, also keeping a five-year jail sentence.
Under Article 48 Clause 4 (a) of the Federal Constitution that states the disqualification of a Member of Parliament will only take effect 14 days from the date he was convicted.
Under the same article, there is a clause (c) stating that if there is a petition for a royal pardon, the disqualification will only take effect after the petition is disposed of. - Malay Mail
