CHAOS & CONFUSION AGAIN! Palanivel rouses fresh anger with nationwide roadshow plan

CHAOS & CONFUSION AGAIN! Palanivel rouses fresh anger with nationwide roadshow plan
KUALA LUMPUR - Chaos and confusion continues to plague MIC following today’s announcement by party vice-president Datuk S. Balakrishnan that its president, Datuk Seri G. Palanivel, would be embarking on a nationwide tour to meet branch chairmen on a mission to explain the party’s current crisis.
While Palanivel had on Thursday announced a moratorium to allow Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak to discuss with the factions within the party to resolve the ongoing crisis, the latest announcement made through Balakrishnan has caused confusion among party ranks.
In response to today’s announcement, MIC Gelang Patah division chairman S. Kanan confirmed that Palanivel, who is also Cameron Highlands Member of Parliament, would be meeting the Johor state division on Feb 1.
In a statement, Kanan, who claimed to represent 15 division chairmen in Johor, said that while they had received the message, they were upset as Palanivel had broken the moratorium that he had announced.
The moratorium was subsequently agreed to by Palanivel’s deputy, Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam.
Prior to that, Dr Subramaniam had met 90 divisional chairmen on Jan 24 at the Grand Season Hotel, after which it was said that the 2009 elected central working committee (CWC) should administer MIC until a new CWC was elected.
“But we were very upset when we received an SMS saying that the president wanted to meet branch and division chairmen.
“This shows that he has broken the moratorium which he agreed to, thus ignoring the Prime Minister’s advice to observe a truce,” Kanan said.
He said if the president could break the moratorium, he could not stop the 15 divisions in Johor from doing the same.

As such, he called on Palanivel to withdraw his plans and find a simpler solution to fulfil the aspirations of the majority of MIC leaders and members.
Similar sentiments were shared by Ipoh Barat MIC head Datuk G. Rajoo and Ampang division chairman P. Wilson, with both saying that any attempt by Palanivel to surreptitiously organise a gathering to solicit support would be taken as a breach of the moratorium.
“We hereby put the president on notice that he should cease and desist in continuing with his actions, failing which we will have no alternative but to convene a meeting to protest the same,” both said in a joint statement today, adding that this was because they too had agreed to support the moratorium in keeping with the request of Najib as Barisan Nasional chairman.
Both also expressed hope that Palanivel would not continue to contradict his words with his “wrongful actions”.
Balakrishnan, who is also MIC Johor state chairman, had earlier announced during a press conference today that the roadshow had been initiated at the request of branch and division leaders keen to know the party’s current status.
The Malaysian Insider had also reported Balakrishnan as saying that the moratorium brokered by Najib had already been broken when other MIC leaders held press conferences and attacked Palanivel.
This was in response to questions of whether the roadshow would be construed as breaking the moratorium.
Palanivel was unavailable for further comment on the matter. - http://www.therakyatpost.com/
