Cops to probe opposition-led talk in Pagoh

Talk was held without a valid permit as required under the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012.
publictalkJOHOR BAHARU: Johor police have started an investigation into the organisation of a public talk on Anwar Ibrahim, in Pagoh, last Sunday.
State police chief Mohd Mohktar Mohd Shariff said the talk, believed to be organised by an opposition party, was held without a valid permit as required under the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012.
“Therefore, those who had made speeches and instigated the people during the talk will not get away with it. We will use our discretion and when the investigation papers are completed, we will submit them to the public prosecutor for further action,” he told reporters at the Johor police headquarters, here yesterday.
Earlier, Mohd Mokhtar had attended an award ceremony attended by 600 members of the police force in Johor.
The solidarity talk was also attended by several opposition lawmakers, among them PKR secretary-general Rafizi Ramli and Kluang Member of Parliament Liew Chin Tong.
Meanwhile, 19 senior officers were promoted to Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) and Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) at the awards ceremony.
A total of 272 officers and men also received letters of appreciation from the Inspector-General of Police and Johor Police Chief for excellent service.
