DON'T ACT LIKE THE MAFIA NAZRI, IT'S ONLY A POPIAH': 'Shut up' - M'sian minister tells Indonesia
KUALA LUMPUR - Tourism and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Aziz has asked the Indonesian group claiming the Lumpia Semarang dish as its own to “shut up”.
When asked to comment on the issue, he said if Indonesia started to claim this dish, Malaysia should question them in return on the origins of the Indonesian language.
Mohamed Nazri reasoned that the Indonesian language had a Malay origin, thus Indonesia should not jump the gun in its recent claim.
“If they start to claim all these, then what about Bahasa Indonesia? Just ask them who the Malay language belongs to.
“Malay language comes from the Malay peninsula.
“We were all one before Nusantara.

“They cannot claim everything in Nusantara as theirs. This area used to be one,” he said when contacted by The Rakyat Post today.

Mohamed Nazri was alluding to Malaysia and Indonesia being part of the Malay Archipelago, also called the Nusantara.
The two countries have for centuries shared similar cultures, traditions and language, which have developed and changed over time.
“This is actually not an issue. They should just shut up before they start claiming this and that,” he expressed.
It is still uncertain whether Malaysia had truly claimed the ownership of the Lumpia Semarang, a spring roll dish, also known as popiah here.
According to a list of Malaysia’s National Heritage Foods, spring roll or popiah, was not included in the list of 151 dishes.
The issue of this claim was highlighted yesterday by the Indonesian media after a peaceful protest by a group held outside the Malaysian High Commission in Jakarta.
Bu Me Me, who reportedly claimed to be the fifth generation of the couple who created the dish in Indonesia, fronted the protest in the hope that Malaysia would retract its ownership claim of the Lumpia Semarang.
According to Tribune News, Lumpia Semarang was created and pioneered by Tjoa Thay Joe, who married a local Indonesian woman, Mbok Wasi, in 1870.
The couple were known as the first generation which started selling Lumpia and Me Me was said to be carrying on the legacy with her family till today.
After the protest was publicised, online readers have pointed out that the dish probably had its origin in China and became popular in other countries. - http://www.therakyatpost.com/
