Cuepacs chief: Pensions should be paid a week after retirement
KOTA BARU: Civil servants have urged the government to end their three-month wait for pension payments to begin after their retirement.
The head of the Cuepacs unions, Azih Muda, said pensions should be paid immediately after retirment.
Azih said the pensioners would need money to cope with the rising cost of living and to pay their monthly bills, including housing loans.
“Ideally, the pension should be paid a week after retirement,” he said according to Bernama. “We want a proactive action from the authorities and we hope this process can be expedited and viewed seriously.
At present, government servants would only receive their pensions three months after their retirement date.
Azih said Cuepacs also wanted the government to prolong the electricity tariffs reduction to a year, instead of the three-month period announced recently.
Azih was here to present flood relief aid to government servants here, together with Abdul Fattah Abdullah, head of the Angkasa cooperative.
