Hadi the right man to replace Anwar, says PAS

He would be able to solve Pakatan's problems, according to an ulama in the party.

PETALING JAYA: PAS has begun promoting its president, Abdul Hadi Awang, as a candidate for the post of Parliamentary Opposition Leader, which has been left vacant with the imprisonment of Anwar Ibrahim.

Abu Bakar Abdullah, a member of the powerful Ulama Wing of the party, was quoted by Sinar Harian today as saying that Hadi, with his administrative experience and his standing as a prominent Islamic scholar, would be the right choice for the position.

With those credentials, Hadi would be in a position to solve problems faced by Pakatan Rakyat, he added.

“Personally,” he said, “I think he should be the choice. I am confident an ulama (scholar) can find solutions to problems. Morever, Hadi has the leadership ability and talent which is recognised worldwide.”

However, Abu Bakar acknowledged that it is the Pakatan Rakyat leadership that will have the final say on the matter and that they would have to base that decision on consensus.

Responding to critics who have questioned Hadi’s experience in administration, he pointed out that the party chief was Menteri Besar of Trengganu from 1999 to 2004.
