HOW LOW THE CALIBRE OF AN UMNO LAWYER! Media told not to report Shafee's Penang talk

HOW LOW THE CALIBRE OF AN UMNO LAWYER! Media told not to report Shafee's Penang talk
The media was told not to cover or write about the talk tonight by senior lawyer Muhammad Shafee Abdullah at Permatang Pauh, the constituency of jailed Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim.
Shafee, who led the Sodomy II prosecution team, is on a roadshow to talk about the case.
The event tonight is organised by a pro-Umno NGO Kelab Warisan Mutiara Pulau Pinang.
The organiser of the talk dubbed 'Sejenak bersama TS Shafee Abdullah' told reporters to leave the hall at the Seberang Perai Politeknik before the talk began.
Several hundreds had turned up to hear Shafee explain the Federal Court's decision to uphold the Court of Appeal's decision to sentence Anwar to five year jail for sodomy.
Shafee was appointed by the Attorney-General's Chambers for the appeal by Anwar at the Federal Court on Feb 10, which was presided by Chief Justice Ariffin Zakaria and four others.
"We were told to leave and if we did not listen, we would be escorted out.
"However, they then allowed us to stay to listen and our photos were taken," the reporter added.
Anwar is still legally the MP of Permatang Pauh.
A by-election will only be called in 60 days after Feb 24 if Anwar does not manage to seek pardon from the King for his release.
Last Tuesday, Shafee also spoke at a forum organised by Umno Youth's Akademi Kepimpinan Kapten Hussein (Akhi), where he went into graphic details describing the foreplay and the sexual act between Anwar and his former aide, Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan.
Pro and anti Anwar groups meet at entrance
The talk in Permatang Pauh tonight, however, drew about 50 protestors.
The group led by Penang PKR Youth leader Khairul Annuar Kamaruddin, Permatang Pauh chief Amir Ghazali and PasMa state coordinator Zulkifky Lazim gathered in front of the Politeknik's entrance at 8pm.
They carried banners with Anwar's last words in court, "I will never surrender".
They also shouted slogans of "Reformasi, justice for Altantuya (Shaariibuu)" and Anwar's battle cry of "Lawan Tetap Lawan (we will continue to fight)".
PKR deputy youth chief Dr Afif Bahardin arrived at the venue just before 11pm.
By then about 50 anti-Anwar protestors led by Persatuan Mukabuku Pulau Pinang representative Salleh Ismail and several leaders from GPMS had also arrived.
Countering the pro-Anwar group, they shouted "Liwat Tetap Liwat (Sodomy remains sodomy)" and asked "how come Anwar's sperm was in Saiful's anus?".
About 20 policemen and 10 light strike force personnel were present to control and separate the two noisy groups.
Protestors from both groups dispersed peacefully at about 11pm upon police instructions.
Afif then thanked the pro-Anwar protestors for their support and said: "We will continue to fight attacks by Umno". - Mkini
