IGP rules out new probe, says Sirul had opportunity to ‘tell all’

The inspector-general of police said there was no reason to start a new investigation as Sirul could be pressured by certain parties to come up and say things which are not true.

He said Sirul had the opportunity to reveal all previously in court but he did not do it.

"Why does he want to tell all now? This is illogical," Khalid said.

"I'm worried there are interested parties who are trying to influence him to tell something which is not true.

"These interested parties know that he is in Australia, and Australia would not send him back as its law prohibits it to cooperate with countries that have capital punishment.

"I'm worried that all this is for the interest of certain parties. But I believe society will evaluate it.

"We will see what he wants to reveal," said Khalid.

He said this in response to a Malaysiakini report yesterday quoting Sirul, who said he had orders to kill Altantuya.

Sirul had also said he was contemplating to "tell all" concerning the gruesome murder nine years ago.

"I was under orders. The important people with motive (to murder Altantuya ) are still free,' he was reported to have said.

Sirul told Malaysiakini that Australian media were asking him to "tell all" but he had not decided to give the interview although he was seriously considering the possibility.

He is now being held at the Immigration and Border Protection Department facility in Sydney, after his arrest in Queensland on January 20 following a red alert issued by Interpol.

A five-man Federal Court bench led by Chief Justice Tun Arifin Zakaria last month sentenced Sirul and Chief Inspector Azilah Hadri to the gallows, overturning a 2013 Court of Appeal ruling over the killing of Altantuya.

Despite the conviction, the motive for the murder was never revealed.
