Is Shafee gunning for AG post?

PKR Youth have suspicions that the lead prosecutor has been offered a plum post in exchange for attacking Anwar Ibrahim about his guilt.

GEORGE TOWN: PKR Youth want to know if the ad hoc public prosecutor in the Anwar Ibrahim Sodomy II trial was offered the top post of next Attorney-General in exchange for participating in an Umno-organised nationwide roadshow in which he tells all about Anwar’s guilt.

In a statement yesterday, its deputy chief Afif Bahardin suggested that Muhammad Shafee Abdullah had something to gain from participating in the roadshow and asked, “Does Shafee’s current action have a connection with speculations that he would be the next AG?”

Afif claimed Shafee’s appearance in the Umno-organised forums to attack Anwar confirmed the PKR Youth’s belief that the Sodomy II case, which he described as “Malicious Lies II”, was a political conspiracy to stop Pakatan from capturing Putrajaya.

He alleged that those who had been involved in Anwar’s Sodomy I case, such as the late Judge Augustine Paul, former IGP Musa Hassan and Attorney-General Abdul Gani Patail were all rewarded handsomely and that it was the same for Shafee.

Based on these examples, he alleged Shafee was highly likely involved as well and played a big role in the conspiracy to end Anwar’s political career.

Afif urged Anwar’s lawyers to haul up Shafeee to the disciplinary committee of the Bar Coucil for overstepping his professional boundaries, and said, “We urge the Bar Council to act tough on Shafee to protect the integrity and credibility of the judiciary and legal profession in the country.

Condemning Shafee’s actions, Afif, a state executive councillor in the Penang state government, also said in his statement, “Shafee has acted beyond his professional limit. He has been unethical.”

He also warned Shafee to immediately cease his public attacks on Anwar.
