Jobless man who stole to support kid jailed 30 days

Accused stole five packs of Nescafe Classic worth RM132 from Sogo shopping mall.
shopliftingKUALA LUMPUR: An unemployed man who allegedly stole five packets of Nescafe, apparently to support his child who was still in school, was sentenced to a month in jail as his plea during mitigation was not accepted.
Noorul Zaman Mohd Amin, 38, who had been recently divorced from his mentally ill wife had pleaded guilty to the charge, looked dejected in the dock.
His excuses were refuted by deputy public prosecutor N Joy Jothi who then urged the court to sentence him so as to serve as a lesson to the accused to not repeat the offence.
The accused who was unrepresented was charged with stealing five packets of Nescafe Classic worth RM132 at the Sogo shopping centre here, at about 9pm on February 19.
Magistrate Nurul’Ain Abdul Rahim sentenced Noorul Zaman to a month’s jail from the date of his arrest on February 19.
According to the facts of the case, Noorul Zaman was arrested after Sogo security guards saw him putting Nescafe Classic packets into his sling bag and heading towards the exit without paying for the items.
Meanwhile, in another Magistrate’s Court, an unemployed man was sentenced to four months jail for stealing 13 types of chocolate worth RM248.
Magistrate Zuraini Abdul Razak sentenced Mohd Sharul Hizam, 32, after he pleaded guilty to stealing all the items at Pasaraya Mydin, Jalan Tun Perak, here at 6.18pm on February 20.
Zuraini ordered the accused to undergo imprisonment from the day of his arrest on February 20.
