Minister says Shafee Abdullah not guilty of qasaf

The Islamic affairs minister insists Shafee Abdullah did not commit qasaf as that was related only to zina or illicit sex which in turn did not include liwat (sodomy).
Jamil Khir Baharom_shafee_300PETALING JAYA: It might seem a little mind-boggling to the uninitiated, but do not worry as even prominent Muslim preachers have got confused over the right context in which to accuse someone of qazaf.
Taking the time to explain the differences between qasaf, zina and liwat was the minister in charge of Islamic affairs, Jamil Khir Baharom who maintained Muhammad Shafee Abdullah, the lead prosecutor in the Sodomy II trial did not commit qasaf as two Muslim preachers had claimed recently.
Jamil said, “Qazaf is accusing others of committing zina.
“You cannot say qazaf for the rest, no such thing as qazaf for stealing, for murder. There is only one qazaf,” he explained, adding that the accusation was strictly meant for accusing others of committing zina, or illicit sex, without providing four witnesses.
He also said zina was different from liwat, which was sodomy, a report on Malay Mail Online said.
Jamil clarified that the word qasaf strictly applied to bearing false witness to heterosexual illicit relations and not sodomy, such as between Anwar Ibrahim and Saiful Bukhari Azlan, the male victim the opposition leader was convicted of sodomising.
The minister offered these explanations as a counter argument to independent Muslim preachers Wan Ji Wan Hussin and Ahmad Auzaie Arshad who accused the lead prosecutor of qasaf for publicly talking about Anwar committing sodomy despite the absence of four witnesses as required by the Syariah Criminal Enactment of Selangor 1995.
Anwar was sentenced to five years jail on February 10 for committing sodomy, prompting a roadshow that Shafee Abdullah is speaking at, in efforts to explain to the people that Anwar’s conviction was not politically motivated as claimed by opposition leaders.
