MP to report IGP to MACC if he fails to question Najib

MP says Najib’s strong reaction to Sirul’s claims about acting on orders suggests he is privy to information about Altantuya’s murder.
IGP Charles Santiago najibKLANG: An MP has said he intends to report the inspector-general of police to the MACC and the EAIC if he refuses to call in the prime minister for questioning over information he may have regarding the Altantuya Shaariibuu murder.
In a statement issued today, the MP for Klang, Charles Santiago, said Najib Razak’s strong reaction to a statement that one of the killers, former police commando Corporal Sirul Azhar Umar acted on orders, suggested the PM knew who was behind the Mongolian’s murder.
“Najib’s strong reaction only implies that he may be in the know of what happened.
“And this gives rise to other questions such as how would Najib know and is he privy to information as to who is behind the murder?” Santiago stated.
Earlier this morning, the PM had said Sirul’s claim was “total rubbish”, a reaction that Santiago said warranted an immediate investigation by the police.
“I am however disappointed to note that the police chief (Khalid Abu Bakar) has dismissed a police report by a DAP lawmaker and colleague urging investigations, as mere hearsay,” Santiago said.
He remarked how this reeked of double standards as police had nabbed opposition politicians, academics and activists on police reports alone before.
He also said if police inaction continued, he would lodge a report with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and the Enforcement Agencies Integrity Commission (EAIC) against the IGP for “neglecting his duty of protecting national security and the interest of the public”.
Echoing the call of DAP elder statesman Lim Kit Siang, Santiago also called upon the judiciary to issue a stay of execution on the convicted killers until the prime minister was questioned.
Sirul and Chief Inspector Azilah Hadri of the Special Action Unit (UTK) were both convicted of shooting, then blowing up Altantuya. However Sirul, who fled the country before the verdict and is in detention in Australia, revealed recently that he was only acting on orders and that those with motive were still free.
