Myanmar gunman runs AMOK in busy Jinjang

Myanmar gunman runs AMOK in busy Jinjang
KUALA LUMPUR - A Myanmar refugee ran amok with a gun in his hand near the Kuala Lumpur Wholesale Market in Jinjang, here yesterday, chasing after a woman as shoppers scurrying away in the 6.30pm incident.
In a brazen attack, the man arrived at the stall, got out of his white Proton Perdana and charged towards the woman, also a Myanmar, who immediately ran towards a shop across the road.
"The suspect destroyed the victim's stall, before he went back inside the car and chased after the victim.
"He then fired two shots, but missed as the victim was hiding behind a pillar in front one if the shophouses there," he said.
It is learnt that police recovered two bullets at the scene, including one which hit a Toyota Vios parked there.
City police Criminal Investigation Department chief Senior Assistant Commisioner Zainuddin Ahmad said the case was being investigated under Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder.
He said police were investigating the motive which led to the attack.
Meanwhile, a source said the suspect, who works at a vegetable stall at the market, is also a wanted man. It was however unclear why he was sought after by the police.
Another Myanmar national who works at a nearby shop told the NST that the suspect and the victim were both holders of the United Nation's High Commissioner for Refugees identity cards.
He said the victim, who is married to another Myanmar man, and the suspect are neighbours. - NST
