Former Youth chief says party rivals not told of meetings with branch leaders.
KUALA LUMPUR: The MIC president has been lambasted for getting “up to his old tricks” for arranging a meeting with Johore branch chairmen without informing his rivals, the senior national leaders.
Former MIC Youth leader T Mohan, in a statement today, said Palanivel had not kept his word to abide by a moratorium in the party’s leadership dispute, called for by Barisan Nasional chairman Najib Razak.
Mohan said deputy president S Subramaniam and vice president M Saravanan, who had abided by the moratorium, had not been informed about the Johor meetings.
MIC Johor secretary R Vidyanathan had sent an SMS on behalf of Johor MIC chairman S Balakrishnan, who is also a national vice president, of a tour by Palanivel to meet with the branch chairmen. Balakrishan had said the deputy president and vice presidents had been informed but this was not the case.
Mohan said Balakrishan had lied by claiming that Subramaniam and Saravanan had both met MIC branches and divisions.
He said his group wanted Palanivel to be more frank and open in resolving the party’s leadership crisis. The party has been ordered to hold fresh elections for the three vice-presidents and 23 central committee posts because of irregularities in the party elections of November 2013.
