Component parties must prevent a repeat of BN members and supporters voting for Pakatan Rakyat.
GEORGE TOWN: Barisan Nasional must make sure there was no internal sabotage amongst its own members and supporters if the coalition aspires to win the forthcoming Permatang Pauh by-election.
Penang Perkasa chief Fadzil Shuib said BN component parties must ensure that all their own members and supporters in Permatang Pauh voted for the BN candidate from Umno.
“The component parties must thwart their own members and supporters from voting for BN’s opponent.
“There should not be any internal sabotage,” said Fadzil here today.
He said component parties should not allow a repeat of previous incidents where BN members and supporters voted for Pakatan Rakyat in Permatang Pauh.
“Only then, would BN have a fighting a chance to finally recapture the parliamentary constituency,” he said.
He was responding to a statement by Gerakan president Mah Siew Keong that BN had a good chance to wrest control of Permatang Pauh in the by-election expected to be held following the sodomy conviction of incumbent MP Anwar Ibrahim, who is also the parliamentary opposition leader.
Acknowledging that a BN win would be an uphill but not an impossible task, Fadzil stressed that it could be achieved if component parties set aside their differences and worked hard together for a common goal.
He said BN component parties must fully activate their respective party machineries and mobilise all their members and supporters in Permatang Pauh.
Gerakan for instance, he said must get to the ground to woo voters, especially their own members, for BN.
“Only then can BN win,” said Fadzil, clearly firing a broadside at Gerakan for failing to muster enough Chinese votes for BN in Permatang Pauh in past polls.
