Johor Chinese Federation says state government must act quick for the sake of the students.
JOHOR BAHARU: The Johor Chinese Federation wants the state government to help solve the shortage of Mandarin teachers at national-type Chinese primary schools (SRJKC) in the state.
Its president, Tey Kim Chai said the association was worried the shortage would affect the performance of students in the schools concerned.
“The Chinese community views this long-standing issue seriously and hopes the government would take immediate measures to solve it,” he said when attending a Chinese New Year goodwill gathering at Dewan Besar Wong Shee Fun, Taman Sri Tebrau, here, today.
In Johor Baharu, for instance, there were less than 300 teachers at the 35 SRJKC.
Meanwhile, the federation’s education bureau chairman Keem Chung Yee, when contacted later, said they estimated the need for about 180 more teachers for the SRJKC in Johor Baharu.
“Placing temporary Mandarin teachers at these schools is also most welcome,”
he added.
he added.
About 1,000 people from the Chinese community here attended the gathering, with Johor Menteri Besar Mohamed Khaled Nordin and state police chief Mohd Mokhtar Mohd Shariff also present.
Mohamed Khaled also handed over a contribution of RM200,000 for the federation to run its activities.
