KUALA LUMPUR: Parti Keadilan Rakyat is expected to announce the move for a television interview tomorrow with Sirul Azhar Umar, convicted for being Altantuya’s killer, who is scheduled to talk to the Malaysian media through telephone from Australia under arrangements made by PAS information director Mahfuz Omar.
A media conference will be held by PKR secretary-general Rafizi Ramli tomorrow morning at which he is expected to announce plans to approach the Australian government to allow a televised interview with Sirul, a former police commando, who has been sentenced to death for the killing of Altantuya but fled to Australia before the final appeal of the court’s judgement was made.
He is being held pending the Australian authorities decision on whether or not to meet the Malaysian government’s request for his extradition.
Rafizi is also expected to talk about a national campaign to make police reports urging the reopening of investigations into the Altantuya case, following Sirul’s comments last week that he was merely a scapegoat for the murder and that the mastermind is still free.
He will also announce details of an international campaign to free party leader Anwar Ibrahim, now serving a five-year jail sentence for alleged sodomy, and challenge Umno Youth leader Khairy Jamaluddin to a debate for sponsoring a roadshow featuring talks by Muhammad Shafee Abdullah, the government’s lead prosecutor in Anwar’s case. - FMT
