Former police commando Sirul Azhar Umar will speak to the Malaysian media via teleconference on Monday, PAS information chief Datuk Mahfuz Omar said today.
He said the 15-minute teleconference was organised by the Islamist party but did not provide further details.
Mahfuz also said that Sirul's mother would leave for Australia to visit her son, who is currently detained by the country's immigration authorities.
"The tickets are ready but I cannot announce the date. Right now we are waiting for the visa to be approved," said Mahfuz.
On January 13, the Federal Court found Sirul and former chief inspector Azilah Hadri guilty of murdering Mongolian Altantuya Shaariibuu and sentenced the two men to death.
But, Sirul was not present when the verdict was delivered and subsequent news reports revealed he had left for Australia last October.
Sirul was arrested in Queensland on January 20 following a red alert issued by Interpol and has been held at the Immigration and Border Protection Department facility in Sydney.
Mahfuz said that besides the teleconference, Sirul was also waiting for the opportune time to invite Malaysian and international media to his detention facility.
"He will give his commitment. He is just waiting for the right time. He will inform me so that I can announce it to the media.
"It's to be fair to all media, and so that he can face all of them in person," said Mahfuz.
