Women’s ministry most likely to handle case of ‘IS’ girl

14-year-old was arrested at KLIA as she was about to fly off to Syria.
kpwkm3KUCHING: The Women, Family and Community Development Ministry (KPWKM) will wait for the findings of the investigation into the case of the teenage girl who was arrested for wanting to join the IS militant group in Syria, before making any recommendations.
Minister Rohani Abdul Karim said she was confident that the case would be referred to the ministry as the girl was underage.
“Let the police investigate the case first…but any case involving underage persons is normally referred to us under the Child Act.
“We will wait to find out what really happened before making any intervention or taking immediate action to prevent a recurrence,” she told reporters after visiting an old folks home at Rumah Seri Kenangan in conjunction with Chinese New Year here today.
Commenting further, Rohani said the arrest of the girl at the KL International Airport as she was about to fly off to Syria last Tuesday was indeed shocking.
“She is only 14 years old and her maturity can be questioned,” the minister said.
