ZAHID IS FINISHED! Even cops ask if he thinks 'everyone is as DUMB as him'
Past and present top cops are lampooning the Home Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi over his letter to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) to clear Paul Phua Wei Seng of 14K triad links.
Despite the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) being directly under the Home Ministry, these former and present top cops, are publicly criticising Zahid for having written that letter and supporting a man known as an illegal gambler.
Some of them were, and are, holding the positions of chiefs of some of the most important divisions in the police branches in Bukit Aman and nationwide.
While some made fun of the fact that Zahid has said Phua is involved in national security, some have also openly lambasted the minister.
According to police sources, this dissatisfaction came about as the police very well knew how big an (alleged) illegal kingpin Phua was, in the country and nationwide.
Phua was arrested by the FBI in the middle of last year and is being charged for running an illegal betting den in the Caesars Palace in Vegas.
The FBI had gained the warrant by Phua’s links to notorious Hong Kong-based 14K triad, which is into illegal gambling and other serious crimes.
The PDRM had confirmed his links with the 14K through their FBI counterparts.
It was then revealed that Zahid had written a letter to the FBI, stating that Phua has no links to 14K and that he assists in national security.
He later said that Phua’s role in national security is a secret.
“We have records of him having been convicted. Zahid sending the letter made the PDRM look like fools, for we gave the information to the FBI on his 14K triad links based on the proofs we have,” said the police source.
Malaysiakini had revealed how Phua was busted in his hometown Miri, Sarawak in 2004 running an illegal betting den during the Euro Cup finals and convicted.
‘No shame not to step down’
One cop on FB stated that Zahid is “acting as if he does not know shame” for not wanting to step down from his post.
“If in Japan, this kind of minister would have stepped down. He is the type who is acting as if he does not know shame. What can the police force expect from him to fight crime? Publicly he was fiery in asking the police to take firm action against criminals, (but) at the back, he was protecting the alleged international kingpin in his capacity as the home minister.”
One even questioned if Zahid thinks “everyone is as dumb as him” to accept his explanations of why he wrote the letter to the FBI.
Although all these past and present top cops have been publicly ranting on Facebook, their names and positions will not be revealed for now to avoid a witch hunt from the minister.
One wrote, “When cyber gambling become an issue... throwing a fit and running amok... building a special unit to wipe it out... great acting... but it looks like his walk is not like his talk...”
Zahid had launched the Special Task Force For Anti Vice, Gaming And Gangsterism (Stagg) in December last year to nab the alleged kingpins in gambling and gangsterism.
One of the main operations was named “Ops Dadu”.
Another top cop wrote and made fun of what Zahid wrote in the letter to the FBI: “If Paul Phua was in Malaysia... he can help the Home Ministry in assisting the flood victims, this fits well with the sentence, ‘Assist us from time to time, as such we are eager to have him back in Malaysia’. Right wisdom, YB, you have such a forward looking vision - what a joke, minister!”
One Facebook post reads: “The morale and spirit of the police officers / men who are dedicated to carry out their daily duties and who are honest, sincere and trustworthy - to the extent of willing to lay down their lives - are dashed like glass against stone. How can it not be, when the father of the police force, which is the home minister himself, is a protector to the international illegal gambler?”
Some commented that Zahid was only supposed to be looking after the wellbeing of the police force, yet he is now ‘doing’ the police's work.
Police sources told Malaysiakini that inspector-general of police (IGP) Khalid Abu Bakar is well aware of the rumbles and rants against Zahid in the social media, as those who commented are Facebook friends with him too.
“He seemed to have let it be for now,” said a source. - M'kini
