GUAN ENG: ‘No one can imagine the pain Anwar is going through’
KUALA LUMPUR - Lim Guan Eng has paid tribute to Opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim over the passing of the latter’s father today.
“Anwar’s unyielding determination and stoic resilience in his moment of pain, sorrow and anguish, honours his father in a manner that no wealth and position can give.”
In a message of condolence posted on his Facebook account, the Penang Chief Minister said the passing of 96-year-old Datuk Ibrahim Abdul Rahman was a big loss for the state and its people.
“I am deeply saddened by the news of the demise of Datuk Ibrahim Abdul Rahman, a proud son of Penang and the father of Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
“Ibrahim was a former Member of Parliament in Penang.
“He also served Penang as the former Parliamentary Secretary to the Health Ministry.”
Additionally, Lim also symphatised with Anwar after enduring the loss of both parents during his stints in prison.
“No one can imagine the pain of Anwar in having to endure the death of his loved ones while in prison.”
Anwar’s mother Che Yan passed away in 2001 while he was serving his first prison term for corruption and sodomy.
Lim also highlighted the fact that Anwar was prevented from attending the funerals of two closest political allies, namely former PAS president Datuk Fadzil Noor and former PAS spiritual leader Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat, as he was in prison.
Fadzil died in June 2002, while Nik Aziz passed away on Feb 12 this year.
Ibrahim was laid to rest at the Sungai Ramal Muslim cemetery here at 2.35pm here today.
Anwar was present during the burial as he received approval by the Home Ministry and the Prisons Department to pay his last respects to his father.
He arrived at the cemetery along with the Prison Department officers in a black four-wheel drive vehicle.
Ibrahim passed away early this morning at 1.45am due to old age. - Therakyatpost
