GUESS WHO WILL CHICKEN OUT: MP calls for Najib, Dr Mahathir debate
PAS vice-president Mahfuz Omar has urged Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak to hold an open debate with his chief critic Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
Mahfuz said that an open debate will allow Najib to address serious allegations on his leadership, that has been raised by Mahathir.
"The best solution to Mahathir's queries are through an open debate. Najib has to come out and challenge Mahathir to explain all the queries.
"Najib should be brave in stating the truth, he should come out and face Mahathir so that the people are not fooled," said Mahfuz, according to Harakah Daily.
The Pokok Sena MP also believed the explanation given by Najib during his interview with TV3 last week was not sufficient and did not address several key issues raised by Mahathir.
"The people did not get a real answer on what has been raised before this and what Najib explained was not according to what was asked.
"What is being said by the people is this: the government has failed to give a comprehensive explanation especially in the murder of Altantuya Shaariibuu and the controversial 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB)," he added.
Crooked low blow
Mahfuz also said it was a low blow for Najib to attack Mahathir on the crooked bridge issue, which has incited the latter to speak up even more.
"Najib should not divert the issue, the crooked bridge has nothing to do (with the issue raised by Mahathir) and what Mahathir is questioning is something all the people are familiar with, 1MDB and Altantuya," the PAS lawmaker said.
Two weeks ago, Mahathir started urging Putrajaya to explain the motive behind Altantuya's murder.
He revealed that Sirul was once his bodyguard and it would be unfair to hang him if he carried out the murder on the orders of others.
Mahathir had also demanded explanations on Jho Low's role in 1MDB. - M'kini
