KUALA LUMPUR - With the majority of nominations for the PAS leadership already in, current president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang has taken the lead, receiving the most nominations from party delegates to retain his current position according to information shared by PAS central information officer Mohd Shahir Shahid.
For the post of party president, Abdul Hadi has garnered 80 nominations while the second-place nominee, vice-president Datuk Husam Musa, trailed far behind with only 8 and former party vice-president Ahmad Awang received just 3.
However, based on the nominations, things were not looking good for current deputy president Mohamad Sabu to retain his post after he received only 9 nominations against current vice-president Datuk Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man’s 78 nominations.
A total of nine PAS members have so far been nominated for position of vice-president, including Bukit Gantang Member of Parliament (MP) Idris Ahmad who received the most at 64 nominations.
Meanwhile, of the current PAS vice-presidents, Salahuddin Ayub (40) was far ahead of both Husam (10) and Tuan Ibrahim (6).
Others candidates included PAS information chief Datuk Mahfuz Omar (34), central committee member Nasrudin Hassan Tantawi (33), PAS Selangor commissioner Datuk Iskandar Samad (20) and Penang PAS deputy commissioner Datuk Dr Mujahid Yusof Rawa (3).
The 2015 PAS Muktamar to be held in June is expected to be a heated affair as the elections for the party’s 2015-2017 leadership is expected to see a clash between two camps.
One camp is aligned to the PAS ulamaks and prioritizes their policies and teachings while the other, often referred to as the professional faction, is seen as favouring opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and the Pakatan Rakyat coalition in general. - Therakaytpost
