LGE: Police’s double standard in cross incident

IGP’s brother furiously ordered the Church to take down the cross.

GEORGE TOWN: DAP Secretary-General Lim Guan Eng has deplored the “double standard” displayed by the police and the authorities in treating those hauled in under the Sedition Act.
He recalled the harsh treatment meted out to Opposition leaders and human rights activists i.e. being handcuffed, interrogated for long hours, kept overnight at the police lockup, dragged to Court for remand order and in some cases remanded for a few days.
He contrasted this with how police handled the case of the 50 protesters who virtually forced the Pastor of the Church in Taman Medan in Petaling Jaya to take down its cross displayed high above on its premises.
“The Inspector-General of Police’s brother, Abdullah Abu Bakar, only spent mere hours at the Petaling Jaya police headquarters answering questions about his prominent role in the Taman Medan church protest,” said Lim who is also Penang Chief Minister and Bagan MP. “By refusing to arrest, handcuff and put Abdullah under police remand, the police have shown special treatment and double-standards.”
Is this due to the fact that Abdullah is the brother of the IGP?
“Abdullah is also the Taman Lindungan Jaya Umno branch chief.”
Lim was commenting on The Star report on Thursday confirming that a certain Victoria Selammal of the Community of Praise Petaling Jaya Church had lodged a police report on Tuesday night against Sunday’s protesters.
According to The Star, said Lim, Victoria met Abdullah after her church service on Sunday. “He furiously ordered the church to take down the cross.”
“Fearing for the safety of the church and herself, she agreed to take down the cross at 1pm.”
Abdullah further threatened to report the church to the Petaling Jaya City Hall, noted Lim.
