Noh Omar to sue those linking Umno with church protest

Selangor state liaison chief says that Sunday’s protestors were there as NGO members and not representatives of Umno.

SHAH ALAM: Protestors who insisted that a church take down its cross are not related to Umno, says the party’s state liaison chairman, Noh Omar.
“They are not related to Umno. They were there as non-governmental organisation (NGO) members,” he said when commenting on allegations that the protestors were, in fact, Umno members.
On Sunday, April 19, a group of 50 gathered at a church in Taman Medan and asked for its cross to be taken down, saying that its display challenged Islam.
Some reports of the incident have suggested that the protestors were Umno-led.
“They did not use any Umno banners in the protest nor did they take any instructions from Umno,” added Noh.
He stated that there were Umno members who were also members of NGOs.
“I have no right to meddle into their matters relating to these memberships,” he said.
He did not clarify whether Umno would take action against the protestors.
Noh said he was baffled when he read news reports claiming that the protestors were with the party.
“Why does it have to be related to Umno?” he asked, visibly annoyed. “Anyone who relates it with Umno, I’ll sue (sic).”
On Sunday, PKR’s Hee Loy Sian claimed that the protestors were Umno members from the Petaling Jaya division.
The Petaling Jaya Selatan Member of Parliament also reportedly said that Umno was “inciting” and “intimidating” the church’s congregation during the protest.
