Now, Perkasa bureau wants royal commission on 1MDB

Voicing support for former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad's criticism and questions over 1MDB, the group's oversight and integrity bureau also suggested names that could head the inquiry, among them former chief justices Tun Abdul Hamid or Tun Ahmad Fairuz.
They also suggested former attorney-general Tan Sri Abdul Talib Othman as another option.
"The reality is that this needs to be dealt with urgently as the people want to know the truth about 1MDB.
"And if what Dr Mahathir said is true, that the RM42 million in debts that was meant for investments has gone missing, then it is a great loss for the country," Azrul said in a statement today.
Azrul added that the bureau had also officially written to the prime minister to convey their stand on the need for an RCI – a suggestion made by DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang in March.
The Perkasa bureau also said that there should be no issue over the setting up of the RCI as before this, Najib had openly urged the auditor general to investigate 1MDB.
“We are confident that the prime minister will not object to our suggestion,” he added.
Earlier today, Umno Youth exco Ibdillah Ishak also called for a probe, specifically against businessman Low Taek Jho over his alleged links to 1MDB and claims of having misappropriated its funds.
Ibdillah had also taken issue with Low for blaming Umno over the attacks against him (Low) for using 1MDB and his ties with Najib for personal gain.
The prime minister last month ordered the auditor general to "independently verify 1MDB's accounts", with the findings to be passed to the Public Accounts Committee (PAC).
"If any wrongdoing is proven, the law will be enforced without exception," Najib had said in a statement released by his office.
On March 25, Putrajaya said it had set up a special task force to investigate the troubled state investor’s operations and its RM42 billion debt.
Dr Mahathir has been criticising Najib, even calling for his resignation, after months of criticism against 1MDB and its massive debts and for continuing the BR1M cash aid for low income households and individuals.
The former prime minister recently upped the ante by raising questions over the murder of Mongolian translator Altantuya Shaariibuu, whom Najib has denied knowing or being involved with.
Last Thursday, Najib gave a special interview on TV3 to address the issues raised by Dr Mahathir, but the pre-taped session only drew more criticism and questions from observers.
