Perkasa lodges police reports against Facebook user

Facebook user allegedly complained about the loud “azan” and wanted to report it to MBPP so action could be taken against the mosque.
Perkasa_police_600_1GEORGE TOWN: Perkasa has lodged 10 police reports against Facebook user Ivan Goh Lee, for allegedly insulting Islam, royalty and the prime minister in his postings this past week.
The reports were lodged at the Jalan Patani police station located in the Northeast District police headquarters at 11am here today.
Some 50 Perkasa activists including women wearing red accompanied the complainants to the police station.
They also held a brief protest outside the station to express their dissatisfaction against Goh Lee’s Facebook postings, calling on the police to take stern action against him.
Among the complainants was Penang Perkasa Youth chief Mohd Rizuad Mohd Azudin, who said, “We want the police to detain him and question him immediately. This Goh Lee has insulted Islam, Malay rulers and the prime minister.
“We want stern action (taken against) him,” Rizuad told newsmen after lodging the report.
In their reports, which were all of similar content, the Perkasa activists claimed that Goh Lee had posted on Facebook that he was upset with the loud “azan” sound from a mosque near his house at No 9, Lorong Bintang 2, Tanjung Bungah.
Goh Lee also allegedly pleaded with mosque authorities not to disturb the sleeping hours of others and said he would lodge an official complaint with the city council (MBPP) so they could take action against the mosque. He is alleged to have used foul language in his postings.
Apart from Perkasa, several local Umno members lodged police reports against Goh Lee as well.
In the meantime, Goh Lee himself lodged a police report Monday night claiming he was not responsible for the postings and that someone had used his name and photos to create a fake Facebook account.
He claimed to have another genuine Facebook account, and that the fake one had been used instead to post the alleged insults on Islam.
In his report, Goh claimed he had nothing to do with the fake Facebook account or its postings, or a letter that was purportedly written by him to a mosque located in his neighbourhood.
Perkasa’s Youth chief however said he did not believe Goh Lee’s claim, alleging that it could very likely be a lie to avoid accountability for his postings.
He said Goh Lee-like insults on Islam and Malay rulers had been growing by the day.
“This must stop. The authorities should act tough,” he said, urging the federal government to revive the now repealed Internal Security Act (ISA).
He said ISA would be the right remedy to rectify, what he described as “worsening religious–racial problems in the country”.
Northeast District OCPD ACP Mior Farid Alathrash meanwhile confirmed Goh Lee’s police report.
The case is being probed under Section 298A of the Penal Code for causing disharmony.
Police have recorded a statement from Goh Lee as well as the complainants from Perkasa and Umno.
