Owner of the Facebook account made a police report last night after his house was pelted with rocks.
GEORGE TOWN: The police are liaising with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to identify the culprit behind a Facebook account, who uploaded a status insulting Islam and the Malay rulers.
Northeast District police chief, ACP Mior Faridalatrash Wahid, said a 43-year-old man who claimed to be the owner of the Facebook account had lodged a police report last night after his house was pelted with rocks by a group of men after the status went viral on social media.
He said the man admitted to own the Facebook account but did not upload the status which provoked the rage of the Malay community and Muslims.
“Initial police investigations revealed there was another Facebook account using the man’s picture and identity, which was signed in on April 10,” he said here today.
Mior Faridalatrash said to date, 19 police reports had been lodged pertaining to the matter by non-governmental organisations and political parties.
Earlier, Penang Umno Youth, Bukit Bendera Umno division and Penang Perkasa lodged police reports over the Facebook’s status.
