Possible grenade left at petrol kiosk

Bomb disposal unit called in to check if package left at a men’s toilet of a petrol station is a grenade.

BUKIT MERTAJAM: A package believed to be containing a grenade was found in the men’s toilet of a petrol kiosk in Jalan Kulim, here today.

Seberang Perai Tengah Police chief ACP Rusli Mohd Noor said the black package was found at 4.30pm by a member of the public who used the toilet.

“Police who conducted preliminary investigations believe it contains a grenade. We then called in the Bomb Disposal Unit.

“Until 9pm, the package is still in the toilet and the Bomb Disposal Unit is currently conducting further inspections,” he told Bernama, here tonight.

Rusli said the petrol kiosk was closed to prevent untoward incidents and police will examine CCTV recording to trace who left the package there.

“We will also summon the petrol kiosk operator and employees for questioning,” he added.
