REALLY? Azizah not wanted by P Pauh constituents

REALLY? Azizah not wanted by P Pauh constituents
PERMATANG PAUH - With just another two days to go before nomination day on April 25 for the Permatang Pauh by-election, PKR is said to be in a limbo over its candidate.
Realising the importance of retaining the seat which once belonged to incarcerated Opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, pressure mounted behind closed doors in PKR headquarters during last night’s meeting when a final decision still could not be reached on who should be fielded against Barisan Nasional to retain the stronghold.
While there is no prizes for guessing who the candidate will be if not PKR president Datuk Seri Wan Azizah Wan Ismail who is also the assemblywoman for Kajang.
Seen by many as a reluctant politician, she is now a semi rejected candidate after what happened in 2008.
It was also learnt from party insiders that even though Wan Azizah was the safest bet, her status as candidate had been set as “embargo”.
According to party sources, the party was now facing a major dilemma, almost hitting a dead end trying to think of a candidate other from Wan Azizah.
Of course, putting her there will be the safest bet to secure the seat her husband once held for six terms under PKR due to factors such getting sympathy votes, and for the fact that she is also a familiar face there.
However, things took a dramatic turn when the voices of the Permatang Pauh folks and grassroots leaders there was finally taken into consideration.
They have rejected Wan Azizah and this is a bitter pill PKR must swallow.
The source went on to tell The Rakyat Post that it would be a big gamble for PKR to place Wan Azizah as candidate as there is the risk of losing votes or even worse, lose out to their opponent.
Even more shocking, the source revealed, is that Wan Azizah has been rejected as a candidate at the grassroots level and after her “warm-up rounds” in the constituency last week.
“Actually, her move to go down to the ground was more of a ‘test mode’ to see if she is still accepted there,” the source added.
“The turnout during her visit to all three state constituencies of Seberang Jaya, Bukit Mertajam and Permatang Pasir did not see an enthusiastic crowd.
“It was clear she wasn’t a favourite there anymore after the stunt she pulled in 2008,” said the source, referring to the time back in 2008 when Wan Azizah relinquished her MP post there to pave way for her husband.
Whatever it is, question marks are still surrounding the issue of who shall be entrusted by PKR to woo the voters of Permatang Pauh.
Another issue that is also bugging PKR is the fear of losing out on Malay votes with the sentiments of the Permatang Pauh Pas which had lately been slamming PKR for not supporting hudud.
The source also revealed that have been suggestions for the party’s former secretary-general Datuk Saifuddin Nasution to contest in Permatang Pauh, which was strongly opposed by PKR vice-president Azmin Ali.
“That is Azmin’s way of stopping someone else besides him to become Opposition leader as he is against it at all cost,” said the source.
The source went on to reveal it is feared that Azmin would become the Opposition leader if Wan Azizah did not step in to contest in Permatang Pauh. - Therakyatpost
