Zaid pokes fun at issues of wealth and wives

Keeping safe while having his say, Zaid Ibrahim takes to Twitter to mock current accusations of wealth that have been dominating the news lately.

PETALING JAYA: After a brief absence due to family matters, former law minister Zaid Ibrahim has come back to Twitter with a vengeance, having some light-hearted fun along the way.
Speaking in the first person but obviously not referring to himself, Zaid tweets in a decidedly mocking fashion, “Saya rasa keseorangan. Tetapi kerana isteri saya “special” saya tidak gentar atau gelisah apa pun orang kata terhadap saya.”
A translated version reads: “I feel all alone. But because my wife is ‘special’ I neither fear nor feel jittery no matter what people say about me,” since no names were mentioned, one can only speculate as to who Zaid was referring to.
In another tweet, he continues, “Mustahil saya berada dalam keadaan sekarang tanpa bantuan isteri saya, jadi saya tetap sanjung dan pertahankan isteri saya” (It’s difficult for me to be in this current state without the support of my wife, so I will continue to honour and defend her name.)
He also tweeted that despite claims by others of personal wealth, there was no proof whatsoever that they could offer to show it was ill-gotten gains. A reference was also made to the accusers, saying they were just as rich, so why not just join in being rich together as the people were too caught up with issues regarding crosses and hudud anyway.
On a separate issue, Zaid noted how China had invested USD46 billion in Pakistan and joked that it might prompt the Taliban to up and leave and re-settle in Malaysia instead.
“It means Taliban will lose its traditional stronghold; and most likely they will land on our shore. Malaysia My second Home for them. Talibans will feel at home here; especially they no longer have to mix with women; and where laughter is controlled,” he tweeted mocking the increasing restrictions the country was implementing on the separation of sexes such as observed in Kelantan and Terengganu.
He also poked fun at Jakim, the Department for Islamic Development Malaysia and asked, “I m trying hard to go on a diet prog, but I want to be sure its consistent with Jakim guidelines. Anyone familiar with it?”
Jakim has been very vocal about the goings-on of the country lately having only recently issued guidelines on what can and cannot be allowed during concerts in the country after the controversy over a K-Pop concert where Muslim girls hugged and kissed Korean artistes on stage.
Just recently Jakim officially gave Muslims the green light to see bomohs (shamans) as long as it closely followed the tenets of Islam. Last year, Jakim gave a stern warning against Muslims touching dogs after the outrage sparked when the “I want to touch a dog” campaign was held in Petaling Jaya.
