AZMIN WAS STATING THE FEELINGS OF MANY M'SIANS: IGP shamed by 'Umno stooge' comment - senior cop
KUALA LUMPUR - A senior police officer today demanded that Selangor Mentri Besar Azmin Ali apologise for calling the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) a “barua Umno” or Umno lackey, calling it an insult towards the entire force.
Deputy chief of police (DCP) Datuk Shah Gzali Khan Sahadad, who chairs the Senior Police Officers Association, said Azmin’s attack was uncalled for as the police have “never meddled in political matters” and are not guided by any political party.
“The entire police force is deeply hurt by this statement because the inspector-general of police is an institution and such an insult would mean that the entire police force is a political ‘barua’,” he said in a statement.
“This insult has affected every level of the police force deeply,” Shah Gzali added in the statement, which was also issued on behalf of the Senior Police Officers Association (Inspectors Division) and the Junior Police Officers Association.
While on the Permatang Pauh by-election campaign trail, Azmin was reported to have asked Sunday night if IGP Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar was planning on fulfilling his role as the country’s top cop or be a “barua” or lackey of Barisan Nasional’s (BN) lynchpin party, Umno.

Azmin later denied that he was insulting Khalid, saying that he was merely asking police Special Branch personnel believed to be present at the night ceramah to ask their “boss” if he is an Umno lackey.
Shah Gzali today said the police force had given Azmin sufficient time to clarify his statement, making room for the possibility that the latter’s statement may have been misinterpreted in media reports.
Despite this, Azmin has not denied having made the statement till today, proving that he had deliberately gone “below the belt” in attacking Khalid for political interests, the senior policeman added.
“The entire police force strongly disagrees with YAB Mohamed Azmin Ali’s act of insulting and disparaging the inspector-general of police and by extension the entire police force which fulfills its responsibilities towards the rakyat without being influenced by any political, racial or religious ideology,” Shah Gzali said. - Malay Mail
