NO REASON GIVEN: Pandikar says not resigning as Parliament Speaker
KUALA LUMPUR - Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia denied that he had resigned as Dewan Rakyat Speaker.
He said he would carry out his duties as usual at the second meeting of the third term of the 13th parliament on Monday.
"I will chair the swearing-in ceremony for two new members of parliament from the parliamentary constituencies of Rompin (Datuk Hasan Arifin) and Permatang Pauh (Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail).
"I will also attend to matters regarding a meeting on May 18 (Monday)," he said in a statement here today to dismiss a portal news report.
The report claimed that former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad in a forum in Ipoh today, said Pandikar had met to inform him that he had resigned as Dewan Rakyat speaker.
Pandikar added that he would also be chairing the debate session on the 11th Malaysia Plan to be tabled by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak on Thursday.
A former Minister in the Prime Minister's Department, Pandikar, 59, took his oath as Dewan Rakyat speaker in April 2008, replacing Tan Sri Ramli Ngah Talib. - BERNAMA
