Umno will organise a solidarity gathering for 30,000 people in Sabah to show support for Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak amidst his feud with former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
The solidarity gathering, said BN's Kalabakan MP Ghapur Salleh, will be held on Sunday at Tawau, on the east coast of Sabah.
"The PM is coming to Tawau and he will be addressing some 20,000 to 30,000 crowd at a solidarity gathering," he told Malaysiakini when contacted.
"The event will be organised by Umno," the Kalabakan Umno chief said.
Ghapur (photo) believes a mixture of party members and the members of public will be present at the gathering.
It was reported that Najib will pay a one-day visit to Sabah, where he will be officiating people's housing project in Kota Belud in the morning before moving to Tawau.
On March 8, a solidarity meeting was held for Najib to meet party's division chiefs to counter the attack of Mahathir's attack.
The party's youth wing also declared support for the party president following a close-door meeting on April 13, after the latter had answered all the allegations by Mahathir.
Mahathir's attack has not waned despite BN component parties expressing undivided support for Najib. He continued to criticise the debt-laden 1Malaysia Development Bhd and lavish spending of his family members.
Mahathir earlier even touched on the murder of Mongolian national Altantuya Shaariibuu, whose body was blown up using explosives by two former police commandos who were then assigned as Najib's bodyguards. - M'kini
