JOHOR BAHRU: Eleven students of Sekolah Kebangsaan Mount Austin here were injured after a school van they were travelling in was involved in an accident with another vehicle at a junction at Jalan Persiaran Jaya Putra Satu, Taman JP Perdana, here today.
Johor Baharu Selatan district police chief ACP Sulaiman Salleh said in the 12.45pm incident, the van, driven by a woman was heading to Seri Austin area from Taman Mount Austin, here.
“It is believed that the van did not stop at the junction. At the same time, a Perodua Alza who [sic] came from the opposite direction tried to avoid the school van but failed, causing the van to spin,” he said in a statement here, today.
Sulaiman said a 10-year old schoolgirl suffered head injuries and an 11-year old boy suffered injuries on the forehead, ears and neck while nine students were given out-patient treatment at Sultan Ismail Hospital.
He said the Perodua Alza driver, a 47-year old marine police from Sarawak with his four family members sustained light injuries and were being treated at the same hospital.
Sulaiman said the van’s driver was unhurt and the case was being investigated under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
