Low Yat Hari Raya gathering gets the thumbs-up

KUALA LUMPUR: The Federal Territories MCA proposal to hold a Hari Raya celebration in Low Yat Plaza early next month has been warmly welcomed.
The proposal comes after Low Yat Plaza was rocked by mob violence when malicious rumours spread over social media that a Malay youth was allegedly cheated by a Chinese trader who sold him a counterfeit smartphone.
“It is important for us to promote unity,” said Malaysia Shopping Malls Association advisor Joyce Yap in a report carried by The Star Online.
Yap said it would also be a good move in helping to restore the people’s confidence in security at the mall. Low Yat Plaza retailers claimed that there was a 40-50 per cent dip in sales since the racially charged riots recently.
Low Yat Plaza is a magnet for local and foreign tourists who want to buy laptops, handphones and other IT accessories.
MCA president Liow Tiong Lai said on Friday the party would discuss the proposal of the Raya gathering with the Federal Territories Ministry.
