MASS PROTEST NATIONWIDE: Students warn Najib to come clean on RM2.6 bil money trail

MASS PROTEST NATIONWIDE: Students warn Najib to come clean on RM2.6 bil money trail
Student activists have threatened to stage a mass demonstration to topple the government if Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak does not give a clear answer on The Wall Street Journal's (WSJ) allegations against him.
Gerakan Mahasiswa Selamatkan Malaysia chairperson Muhammad Luqman Nul Haqim Zul Razali said today Najib must provide answers to three questions, which are:
Are the bank accounts his?;
Did the RM2.6 billion from 1MDB go into the accounts?; and
What are his assets?
"If the prime minister fails to do this, then we will not hesitate to organise a mass protest to topple the government," Luqman said.
He and several other student leaders were speaking after a student demonstration in Putrajaya today.
They were referring to the WSJ report that RM2.6 billion from 1MDB had been traced to Najib's personal savings accounts.
Persatuan Mahasiswa Malaysia chief Khairul Najib Hashim said if the allegations by WSJ were true, then the current BN government was illegitimate.
"If it is true, then Parliament must be dissolved and the mandate returned to the people," he said.
Man taunts speakers
About 20 students representing 20 student groups had gathered outside the Putra Mosque after Friday prayers, giving speeches on why Najib has to answer the WSJ allegations.
However, their speeches were temporarily halted when police moved in to stop them using a megaphone.
"You can speak but don't use a megaphone," an officer said.
The tense moment quickly dissipated, but the students' troubles were not over yet as three men who joined the crowd of observers started heckling them.
One man, clad in a red Baju Melayu and who identified himself as a former police officer, egged the students on.
"Come on and fight. (Perdana Putra) is nearby, go and fight!" he taunted.
The students instead gladly accepted the challenge and marched the 100 meteres from the mosque to the outer gates of the Prime Minister's Office, where they continued speaking against the establishment.
Luqman said the students would hold another protest outside the Sogo shopping complex in Kuala Lumpur at 2pm tomorrow, in which he expects about 300 students to join. - M'kini
