Datuk Abdul Rahman Dahlan has hit back at DAP's Lim Kit Siang after the latter said the Umno minister has "egg on his face" over his attempt to expose alleged forgery of 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) documents by Sarawak Report.
Using his official tweeter handle @mpkotabelud, the urban wellbeing, housing and local government minister said: "Is @limkitsiang worried his star MP cld be proven lying abt mtg
Justo? Clearly the eggs are on your face Mr Lim, not mine."
He was understood to be referring to DAP's national publicity secretary and Petaling Jaya Utara MP Tony Pua, who insists he had never met former PetroSaudi International executive Xavier Andre Justo, who is currently under Thai police custody for attempting to blackmail his former company.
In his second tweet, Rahman also said: "When BN questioned the credibility of DAP's sources, @limkitsiang always quick to say "Don't shoot the messenger, focus on the message!" So?
Rahman’s Twitter rebuttal comes after Lim had yesterday hit out at his defence of Lester Melanyi’s credibility. Melanyi is the journalist who had claimed that the whistle-blower site Sarawak Report had forged 1MDB documents while working hand-in-hand with opposition leaders.
Sarawak Report had denied that Melanyi, a self-proclaimed "editor" for the site, had ever worked for the site.
Despite this, Rahman had insisted that people focus on Melanyi’s message instead of focusing on his credibility.
Yesterday Lim, the Gelang Patah MP, said with his insistence that people focus on Melanyi’s message, not his credibility, Rahman had won instant media fame (or infamy) by having egg all over the face.
"But if the messenger is disreputable and mercenary, what is the credibility of his message?" Lim had asked.
A few days ago, Rahman said opposition politicians had worked with Sarawak Report to forge documents leading to the many exposes on 1MDB.
He had said there was "solid evidence", including an alleged video confession, provided in a police report lodged by Ramesh Rao Krishnan Naidu, the president of Pertubuhan Minda dan Sosial Prihatin (PMSP), a Barisan Nasional-friendly non-governmental organisation.
The police report named Melanyi as a former editor who worked with Sarawak Report, but this was dismissed by the site’s founder and editor Clare Rewcastle-Brown.
However, Melanyi insisted that his information was genuine and he is standing by his claims.
1MDB, a state investment arm established in 2009, sits on RM42 billion debts and is also tied to allegations that some of its funds were channelled into Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak personal bank accounts in 2013.
Najib has denied the allegations.
