VERY FISHY: Logical for IGP to warn whistle-blowers not to leak info when he is on task force to probe Najib?

VERY FISHY: Logical for IGP to warn whistle-blowers not to leak info when he is on task force to probe Najib?
KUALA LUMPUR - A political analyst has noted in a brief piece in his blog that former Inspector General of Police Musa Hassan and his successor Khalid Abu Bakar appear to differ on whether whistle-blowing and leaking of information has been criminalized in an absolute sense. “Certain political leaders and NGOs seem to be on the same page as Khalid.”
“It’s not the done thing for Khalid to warn all and sundry that the police would look for the whistle-blowers and those who leaked information, right in the midst of an investigation into the truth or otherwise of the same material.”
Such warnings, added Shahbudin Husin, will raise serious doubts in the popular mind about the seriousness and the legitimacy of the investigation. “It must be kept in mind and accepted that a special Task Force including Khalid was already investigating the leaked information.”
Shahbudin referred to the comment in the social media by Musa, which quoted him as follows: “To expose a criminal act was not an offence in itself but if such information turns out to be false, meant to oppress someone, then it can be considered an offence.”
He appeared to imply that if the information turns out to be a wild goose chase, then the authorities concerned can look for whoever was responsible for spreading the falsehood or “leaks”.
The thrust of the issue, added the analyst, and what needs to be investigated was to determine the truth of “leaked” information and not worry about who “leaked” it, irrespective of whether such material was accurate, especially when it involves a criminal act or activities. - FMT
