Want cinema seats? Show us your marriage certificate – Bernard Manickam

Aside from the hot 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) news that is currently trending all over Malaysia, a small side news has been slowly crawling into our attention, especially affecting movie goers.
Yes, I am talking about the recent issue of the Lotus Five Star Cinema (LFS), which is located in Seri Iskandar, Perak, asking Muslims who want to buy couple seats to show their marriage certificate before they are allowed to proceed with the purchase.
Apparently, couple seats are now off limits to Muslim couples who are not married.
"Authorities should reconsider awarding licenses as people are there not to watch movies, but to 'beromen' (Malay slang for having sex). We spend so much money for preaching, but our own side is encouraging vice," he added.
In addition to that, he also said, "The cinemas are already showing 'romen' (romance) stories, people who watch them want to 'romen' at their own seats. I don't understand why all this is happening."
As usual, many personalities in Malaysia have a disease called "penyakit nak jadi Tuhan". Day and night they are out there to "do good" to others and this case is no different either.
But honestly, I think he should start trusting the Muslims in Malaysia more. This is one of those situations whereby if someone tells you not to press the red button , then suddenly your urge to press that red button sky rockets.
How can he be so sure that couples only go to cinemas to 'beromen'?  Why risk being spotted by others (there will be other couples around in the couple seats as well) when one could just easily book a budget hotel room?
On top of that what kind of movie should the couple pick for these kinds of acts?
Well, certainly not one of those blockbuster movies because they will be missing out on a lot of good stuff.
According to him, if a cinema shows romance stories, it makes people want to "romen".
Does this mean that if one were to go for a ghost movie, that particular individual will end up "nak jadi hantu" (wanting to be a ghost)?
I believe that Malaysian Muslims are way smarter and not so easily influenced by just watching a movie. They do not need "babysitters" to impose these kind of bans on them.
I understand that different religions have different rules and regulations. But one must not go out and force their belief on others even though they practice the same religion.
Doing so will only nurture more rebels than true followers. Because at the end of the day, what one does is between him/her and God.
Have a little faith, your trust towards the Muslims in Malaysia can go a long way.
