Amid Zahid crackdown, Johor Prince warns M'sians: 'BEWARE! THE ODDS ARE STACKED AGAINST US'
KUALA LUMPUR - As newly appointed Deputy Prime Minister Zahid Hamidi launches a fresh crackdown, this time aimed at intimidating Members of Parliament from both the Opposition and his own Umno-BN coalition to stop them from supporting a no-confidence vote against Prime Minister Najib Razak, the Crown Prince of Johor has raised eyebrows with a cautionary statement.
"BEWARE! THE ODDS ARE STACKED AGAINST US, WE ARE PLAYING AGAINST THE SYSTEM!." said Tunku Ismail in a posting on the Facebook page of his Johor Southern Tigers football team.
Tunku Ismail's statement (appended in full below) was couched in football terms, yet his comments were taken by many Malaysians as another rebuke to the Najib administration.
Mahathir's warning: Ignore at your peril, Najib
Tunku Ismail's comments also follows hot on the heels of similar comments from former prime minister Mahathir Mohamad, who lambasted Najib for 'buying' the support of key politicians to ensure he could stay on in power.
"What is happening in Malaysia today is unprecedented. The rule of law has been turned upside down and the people seem powerless to do anything to put it upright again," Mahathir had posted on his blog on Monday.
"This is because the very leader entrusted with upholding the law has become the subject of the due process of the law. It is alleged that he has broken the law. As no one is above the law, it follows that he must be investigated to determine if indeed he had broken the law."

"Najib also sacked the Deputy Prime Minister and one of the ministers who had been vocal in questioning the financial records of 1MDB and the RM2.6 billion found in Najib’s personal bank account.
"With these actions, Najib has effectively stopped investigations on the disappearance of billions of Ringgit invested by 1MDB and the appearance of 2.6 billion in Najib’s account. Now no legal action can be taken against Najib as the allegations cannot be proven. But his very actions prove that there is substance in the allegations made against him.
"Public opinion therefore remains strong in wanting Najib to resign as PM. Consequently there is talk about moving a vote of no-confidence against him in Parliament.
"This is very difficult as almost all the UMNO members seem beholden to him. And the opposition does not have enough members to pass the motion," added Mahathir.
People's champions emerge in the nation's hours of darkness
Like Mahathir, Tunku Ismail has become a sort of a 'people's champion' as the Najib administration tightened its iron-fist hold on the country, creating a climate of fear with frequent police dragnets, even against officers in the Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission probing 1MDB-related corruption allegations against Najib.
The Johor prince first caught the national headlines when he mocked "everything to hide" Najib for chickening out of a tell-all forum on corruption-tainted sovereign fund 1MDB, ironically titled 'Nothing2Hide'.
Najib had pulled out at the 11th hour, allegedly on hearing Mahathir was in the audience and planned to ask questions on the debt-riddled 1MDB.
Over the weekend, Tunku Ismail had publicly chided a former minister Puad Zarkashi for being presumptuous when the latter said there was no ill-feeling between the Johor Sultan and Najib.
“Do not make any speculations whether there’s a problem or not between His Majesty and the Prime Minister," the Crown Prince had said in a two paragraph statement.
“The Sultan and I know the whole story of the said matter, and as such, for the time being, only we need to know and there’s no reason for it to be made public.”
In the aftermath of the recent Cabinet reshuffle, where Najib had sacked his outspoken deputy Muhyiddin Yassin for disagreeing with him on the 1MDB issue, the Johor Sultan had signaled support for Muhyiddin by granting an audience and posing with the latter.
Muhyiddin who is still the Umno deputy president, hails from Johor, where party members have denounced Najib and demanded Muhyiddin's reinstatement.

Below is Tunku Ismail's message:
Previously, much was said about the decision of referees that are questionable. It looks as if the referees received "orders" from interested parties to give advantage to certain teams.
With several questionable calls by the referees of late, it only serves to reinforce public perception of the matter.
This is not an issue that popped up yesterday, but has been ongoing for many years. I do not dispute match results, only the quality of our refereeing. Even more so when it affects a team's line up, especially at a very critical time such as now.
I remain firm with my stand that referees should operate under an independent and neutral body, and not directly under FAM.
So long the current situation remains, there will always be a conflict of interest between FAM, referees and certain teams.
With that, I urge the Johor fans to stand firm behind our team. You are the team's hope and strength.
We must realize, not only are we facing seemingly insurmountable odds, but we are also going against a system that is deeply rooted in the country's football for over 30 years. -  https://www.facebook.com/johorsoutherntigers.com.my
