Critics willing to ‘sacrifice’ country, laments PM’s son

Mohd Nazifuddin says the personal attacks against the Prime Minister will only hurt the country.

KUALA LUMPUR: Personal attacks on my father will only hurt the country, says Prime Minister Najib Razak’s son Mohd Nazifuddin.
In a report by Utusan Malaysia, Nazifuddin, who is the second son of Najib Razak and the chairman of several local and international corporations, said the attacks would cause the country to suffer due to the loss of trust and subsequent instability of the country’s economy.
He called the recent attacks on his father in the wake of the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) controversy “personal” and alleged that they were part of a conspiracy to unseat his father.
“Because of the loss of trust, society is willing to ‘sacrifice’ the country solely to topple the prime minister.
“Investors will be too afraid to come here as they will think the country is unstable, and this will cause the ringgit to fall and impact the economy as a whole,” he was quoted as saying after officiating the Jaringan Melayu Malaysia (JMM) cafe in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.
He said that those quarters attempting to overthrow his father should realise the counter-productivity of their efforts, and that they were simply worsening the situation.
“Eventually we will feel the effects. I hope that society will not be easily influenced by false rumours and that they will think about the implications towards the country’s well-being in the long run,” Nazifuddin was quoted as saying.
Najib had yesterday said at the Pasir Gudang Umno division’s annual general meeting that he was angered by the unceasing attacks against him on social media.
He said that his predecessors had also run into controversies during their administration, but none had faced as much heat as he due to the absence of social media then.
