Disciplinary action sought against Muhyiddin

A Penampang Umno resolution says the Deputy President has maligned the party.

PETALING JAYA: The Sabah Umno division of Penampang is seeking disciplinary action against Muhyiddin Yassin for allegedly maligning the party.

A resolution calling for censure of the Umno Deputy President was passed at the division’s annual meeting on Saturday, according to a Star Online report.

Penampang Umno claims Muhyiddin violated Article 20.8 of the Umno constitution in speeches that he gave at the Cheras, Pagoh, Kemaman, Kluang and Semporna division meetings. It noted that he spoke openly about his private conversations with Umno President Najib Razak.

The resolution was proposed by Nambanzan branch chief Fredie Suah.

According to the resolution, the negativity apparent in Muhyiddin’s speeches could tarnish the party’s image. “In fact, what the deputy president has done can destroy and bury the party in the next general election,” it read.

Penampang Umno chief John Ambrose said the division held to the belief that no member of the party was above the Umno constitution.

“As Deputy President, Muhyiddin should lead by example,” the Star quoted him as saying. “If Muhyiddin is not satisfied with the explanations and actions of the President, he can leave Umno and not be a thorn in the party’s flesh.”

Muhyiddin could not be reached for comment. He is said to be overseas.
