JOHOR BARU - Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi reminded Umno leaders that they are successful due to the support of the grassroots.

Zahid said leaders and the grassroots members depended on each other.

“Don't think just because I am Zahid Hamidi I am great.

"Do not think just because (Johor Umno liaison chairman Datuk) Mohamed Khaled Nordin is MB he is great because when we lose our positions, nobody will respect us,” he told the Kota Tinggi Umno delegates meeting on Friday.

Zahid, who is vice-president, urged party members who no longer hold positions to “return” (kembali) to the party and ensure Umno remained a party for the Malays.

“To those who have no positions, I say return to the party and unite not damage the party,” he said.

Zahid warned that the Opposition would continue in their efforts to break up support for Barisan Nasional in the general election.

“We should work hard to push away things that weaken us.

“We must remember the Opposition could win Penang, Selangor, Terengganu, and once upon a time Kedah, not because they are strong but because we are weak,” he said. - ANN
