JOHOR PRINCE HAMMERS ZAHID: DON'T TRY TO INFLUENCE THE SULTAN FOR YOUR PERSONAL INTERESTS

JOHOR PRINCE HAMMERS ZAHID: DON'T TRY TO INFLUENCE THE SULTAN FOR YOUR PERSONAL INTERESTS
KUALA LUMPUR - The Crown Prince of Johor has lashed out at Deputy Prime Minister Zahid Hamidi for toadying up to his father the johor Sultan and insinuating the Ruler had faith only in Umno to unite the Malays.
"I do not support or side with any political party, I only support true leaders that serve the people with honour, transparency and full of integrity. Of late, many are seen to be trying to get close and be friends with H.M. The Sultan of Johor, which leads to all kinds of speculations and perceptions," Tunku Ismail ibni Sultan Ibrahim said in a fiery message on the Johor Southern Tigers Facebook page.
"Do not forget, I am the heir to the Throne of Johor, and my voice will be the last one heard before anything else reaches His Majesty. My loyalty lies with my father, my Sultan. My priority will always be the sovereignty of my state, and the welfare of my people.
"Do not attempt to give counsel to the Sultan for your personal interests. No matter what happens, blood will always be thicker than water. When I give counsel to the Sultan, it is sincere on my part, as I have no personal interest.
"My love for my father, my Sultan, is unshakeable and none can hope to destroy. I am not trying to point fingers at anybody, or trying give anybody a hard time, I am merely reaffirming my stand behind the Sultan and people of Johor. May Johor will always remain Johor. Allah save the Sultan."
Zahid, Johor Sultan in a pic taken on Friday
Although Tunku Ismail did not mention names, it was clear who he was referring to. Zahid had indeed tried to put words in Johor monarch's lips when he recounted his Friday morning audience to the press.
"The sultan reminded me that Umno was born in the Johor palace. [...] His Royal Highness does not wish to meddle in politics but the sultan hopes the Malays can remain united," Zahid was reported by Malaysiakini as saying.
"Although His Royal Highness did not say it, I am confident the sultan is counting on Umno to unite the Malays," he told delegates at the Kota Tinggi Umno division meet today."
This is not the first time the Johor Prince has ticked off a senior member in embattled Prime Minister Najib Razak's federal government.
A former minister Puad Zarkashi, who tried to make light of the perceived unhappiness the Johor palace felt with the Najib administration, was roundly ticked off.
More than meets the eye: Was Zahid trying to complain to the Sultan about the Prince?
Zahid. who was speculated to be object of a comment posted by the Johor Prince earlier this week had gone to Johor on a working visit, where he had pledged to win over the state Umno division angered by Najib's recent sacking of his predecessor Muhyiddin Yassin.
"Don't fear the enemy who attacks you. Fear the fake friend who hugs you," Tunku Ismail had written.
The comment followed a tirade by Zahid, who warned of a plot to topple Najib and vowed to crackdown on the 'plotters'. Tunku Ismail had been implicated by a pro-Najib blogger as being part of a conspiracy to move a no-confidence vote against Najib in Parliament.
Amid the public furore that ensued, Zahid was forced to retreat, clearing Muhyiddin of any blame. He then claimed that the 'mastermind' was an "old man", immediately setting off another blaze of anger among the already infighting Umno factions.
'No-confidence vote is legal and must be carried out' : What is Zahid's response to Dr M?
Former prime minister Mahathir Mohamad, who recently celebrated his 90th birthday, has since lambasted Zahid for trying to scare the people and Umno members for the sake of pleasing Najib.
"There is a blatant attempt by Najib and his supporters to make the illegitimate legitimate and vice-versa.," wrote Mahathir on his chedet.cc blog.
"Thus Najib’s stoppage of the investigations on 1MDB and his own possession of RM2.6 billion is made to appear legal and right while the investigators who were acting completely in accordance with the laws of the country are accused of acting outside their terms of reference and therefore not legitimate. To support their comment they invented terms of reference of the task force.
"On the other hand he and his supporters are trying to make out that a vote of non-confidence against him by Parliament is not proper and constitute an abuse of the democratic system and an illegal attempt to overthrow the elected Government. But everyone knows that a vote of non- confidence is absolutely legal."
"Najib seems to have forgotten that the BN overthrew the elected Government of Perak by claiming it had majority support in the state assembly. It should have done so through a vote of non-confidence. But BN was not sure that it would have majority support if the State Assembly sat. So it made out its case before the ruler despite there being no provision in the constitution or laws of the country for a ruler to dismiss an elected Government."
"A vote of non-confidence is necessary now because Najib has made BN members of Parliament beholden to him by giving them lucrative posts in the Government. Even those who had come to me complaining about Najib’s administration before, upon being given posts in his government, have now changed their stand. One of them who claimed to have documentary evidence of Najib’s misconduct, now gladly support him upon being made minister."Malaysia Chronicle
